Utrecht, 18 September 2024 - Royal Jaarbeurs 's Beatrix Theatre in Utrecht is gearing up for the grand premiere of Moulin Rouge! The Musical on 19 September. For the arrival of the extravagant musical, the theatre had to undergo a major modification. The theatre features an imposing set packed with striking visual elements, such as the iconic red windmill and a five-metre-high blue elephant. This required partial removal of the theatre's ceiling and walls. In addition, the auditorium is richly detailed with sumptuous fabrics and glittering crystal chandeliers, which will make audiences feel completely like they are in the famous Parisian nightclub.
Quality, experience and circular renovation
Remarkably, the theatre's modifications did not only stay within the Beatrix Theatre's own walls. All 1,500 theatre seats have been replaced with new comfortable custom-made seats after 20 years, designed to offer visitors more comfort. The 354 balcony seats, which were still in good condition, will get a new home at the Beatrix Theatre in Moengo, Suriname, from a collaboration between Koninklijke Jaarbeurs and Stage Entertainment. This donation fits the sustainable policies of both companies and ensures that the seats will make a valuable contribution to Moengo's cultural infrastructure. Besides the renovations in the theatre hall, the front of the Beatrix Theatre has also been renovated. Thanks to this refurbishment, visitors can already enjoy an atmospheric, modern and quality environment as soon as they enter the theatre. With the completion of the renovation, Royal Jaarbeurs 's Beatrix Theatre is all set for the upcoming (inter)national conferences and the new theatre season with its premiere on 19 September as its kick-off.

The musical tells the story of a young poet Christian who falls in love with the beautiful courtesan Satine in the legendary Parisian nightclub. A nightclub where bohemians and aristocrats meet and where everything revolves around enchanting entertainment. But the pressure on Satine increases when her boss, Moulin Rouge owner Harold Zidler, counts on her to satisfy the Duke of Monroth, whose money will keep the nightclub running.
