In organising our events, we strive to use sustainable and circular materials. We are focused on reuse and new materials can be made from old materials.
Our webshop for exhibitors and organisers clearly indicates the more sustainable options for each choice. In stand construction, for example, using reusable materials instead of processed wood yields huge environmental gains and waste savings. In catering, opt for more plant-based alternatives. Or consider furniture made of plastic from the Utrecht canal.
In the coming period, we will be adding more and more sustainable, preferably circular, products in our webshop that will enable us to reduce CO2 emissions. This will allow us to reinforce our promise to be CO2 neutral by 2030. You can think of:
- Durable furniture
- LED lighting
- Circular carpet
- Catering range (vegetarian choices)
We will also introduce sustainable participation packages. These include circular booth walls, LED lighting and circular carpet and furniture. With these sustainable options, we want to inspire exhibitors to make sustainable choices. Only together can we make a difference.

Exhibitors can opt for sustainable stand construction at Jaarbeurs. The walls of the sustainable stand consist of three-quarters recycled material. The chairs and stools in the stand are made from recycled PET bottles and the tables are made from residual wood by a sheltered workshop. There is also LED lighting, a separate waste bin and circular exhibition carpet.

We switched to circular exhibition carpet in early 2022. Besides stand construction and hospitality, exhibition carpet is one of the biggest opportunities for us to become climate neutral. After all, trade fair carpet is one of the biggest sources of waste: more than 100 million m2 are laid and disposed of worldwide every year, to an estimated 100 million. We have therefore started a sustainable partnership with JMT Floorcoverings, supplier of the most sustainable type of exhibition carpet. With this, we are taking a big step towards our ambition to become Europe's most sustainable organiser and facilitator.
JMT Floorcoverings is an exclusive partner of Rewind, the most sustainable type of exhibition carpet and the only Cradle to Cradle Certified Silver needlefelt exhibition carpet in the world. The carpet is circularly designed using responsible raw materials and energy-efficient production. The main difference from previous generations of exhibition carpet is that it no longer contains latex and consists of only one material; here it can be recycled at a high quality. This greatly reduces the ecological footprint of an event, and thus also the CO2 emissions.
