Royal Jaarbeurs: the friendly, sustainable and innovative host for all of the Netherlands. A place where you meet, inspire, learn and grow. We'd love to tell you what's going on at Jaarbeurs and how we do things. How? By getting to know our most valuable asset: our people. Noa Vermaak first worked as an exhibitor service employee and recently made the switch to sales support employee for KreaDoe and Vakantiebeurs. She is also actively involved in WEY; the staff association of Jaarbeurs.

With a background in service, Noa is the figurehead of friendliness. For her, it is closely linked to open communication towards each other: 'It doesn't all have to be so businesslike and strict. I think it's important that our customers really notice that we work hard for them and that we care about them. It doesn't matter whether you are an organiser, exhibitor or visitor, each person gets equal attention here. That way, we can give everyone the best experiences. '

Noa supports the sales and marketing team of two major consumer exhibitions of Jaarbeurs: KreaDoe and Vakantiebeurs. Her duties include looking for new leads, making sure exhibitors have all the materials they need to run a good fair and thinking along to make the fair even more successful. She also supervises all KreaDoe volunteers.

'I want to make sure our customers are satisfied'

'KreaDoe is a big community and a big fair. We can't do it alone, we do it together with a network of volunteers. I provide them with information, support them with activities and make sure everyone gets food and drinks' says Noa. She enjoys working with people, which is partly due to her background in service. Sales therefore still passes on her e-mail address to larger parties if they have questions leading up to the fair. Noa: 'For our customers, that's nice, then they have a more direct point of contact.'

'We are here to help' says Noa. 'I always try to let my clients know: no matter how stressed you are, it's OK. After all, being at a trade fair is not nothing. There's a lot involved. And we can help you with that. Whether it's on the phone, or if I stop by to check whether the set-up is going well. I like to make sure our customers are satisfied and that everything is well organised. I see it as my responsibility to reassure them that they are important to me. We always help you with a solution.

That she always comes up with a solution reminds her of an exhibition at an external venue. Due to a miscommunication in the (external) kitchen, an exhibitor's lunch was not delivered several times. 'That is of course very annoying,' says Noa. 'A fair is busy, as an exhibitor you can't just quickly get your sandwich. We as an organisation did get lunch, so I consulted with the fair manager whether I could bring some of our lunch to the exhibitor. I made a tray of sandwiches, tasty snacks and drinks and brought it to them. I noticed they appreciated that we took their complaint seriously. Mistakes happen, to everyone. It's about how you deal with it and manage to turn it into a fun memory.'

'Here people really work with passion.'

Noa has been working at Jaarbeurs for 1.5 years now and is enjoying it. Because, she tells herself: 'All the people working here are super passionate about what they do. Whether it's the service department where people work hard, or the exhibition managers who go the extra mile; everyone does their best for our guests. And it's the same internally. You can go to each other here to make a connection or ask for help. I really like that, it's open here. The same goes for the director, Jeroen van Hooff. You can just walk up to him to say good morning and have a chat. Nobody is in a closed box and that makes Jaarbeurs a really great organisation.'

Besides working to make guests feel comfortable, Noa is actively involved in the staff association 'WEY'. She helps to organise fun activities: 'Jaarbeurs does not only go the extra mile for guests, but also for employees. For example, once a month we have a pub where we have a drink and something to eat after work with whoever wants to. We also organise other outings. Last year, for instance, there was an empty floor where we set up a laser trail. We made the floor dark, laid tables on its side and borrowed smoke machines and flashing lights from suppliers. I think there were 50 of us. It was a real hit. I ran around with a banner to protect myself from the lasers, haha! We also have an Oktoberfest, a sustainable Christmas dinner, a city trip and much more; there really is something for everyone here.'
