How do you help young talent from multicultural backgrounds meet potential employers in a relaxed way? Global People has been working on this for years, with success. To remove barriers and unconscious prejudices, the largest recruitment platform for business and multicultural talent organises the Diversity Dinner. This annual event brings top talent and employers together at one table, based on an objective talent scan. The aim is to get to know each other better over a good dinner and inspiring conversations. The event often marks the beginning of a promising career for young talent.
With 350 guests, this year's seventh edition of the event took place for the first time in the Expo Hall of Royal Jaarbeurs. Wilma Schild, CEO of Global People, looks back with satisfaction. She stresses the importance of face-to-face meetings: "We saw great conversations about diversity and inclusion. It is so important that people can look each other straight in the eye and not just judge each other based on a CV. People who might not otherwise see each other so quickly, come closer together here. As a young talent with a different surname or skin colour, you can experience a lot of barriers when looking for a new step in your career. It is great to see that people at the table can really talk about this, talent and employer together. What are you struggling with, what are you running into, how can we address that?"

For employers, the dinner also offers insight into candidates on a more personal level. Details that do not normally appear on a CV, such as helping cousins with homework, can illuminate a candidate's personality.

Manon van Wersch, account and event manager at Jaarbeurs, was involved in the organisation from the beginning and shared the ambition to make it a resounding success. "For last-minute registrants, we took dietary requirements into account until the last minute. That is a challenging job for our kitchen staff for 350 guests. In addition, the entire dinner was halal and sustainably prepared with local suppliers. A challenging job for our colleagues in the kitchen but a challenge we relished. And with success!"

Manon looks back on the collaboration with great pleasure. "Wilma and her team gave us a lot of confidence. They built on our expertise and our advice was almost all taken. With a tight budget, we were able to decorate the venue beautifully."
Wilma confirmed: "It was nice interacting with Manon and her colleagues, it was tightly organised. We had chosen Jaarbeurs because of its central location right next to the railway station, but we were also really impressed with the execution of the dinner. The food was very good.". Manon does see room for improvement in the future, focusing on a slightly more intimate setting.

Participants are enthusiastic and looking forward to next year. "This was the best event I have ever participated in in the Netherlands," responds Achmed Abdelaziz. "What a great way to bring people together. A big round of applause for the Global People team, for the chef and his team, and for everyone involved!"
Employers also look back with satisfaction. "We as the Royal Netherlands Army participated in the Diversity Dinner for the second time," said Buddy Masfirdaus, recruiter at the Royal Netherlands Army. "It was a successful evening. We sat at the table with top talents, had good conversations and were able to network to the maximum. And some of these toppers we are now going to accompany to a job in the Army!"
All in all, Global People and Jaarbeurs are confident that next year they can remove even more barriers for diverse young talent. At an even more wonderful Diversity Dinner 2024.
