Utrecht, 18 April 2024 - Domstad Utrecht was the beating heart of mental health and fitness during Dutch Health Week last week. The organisers and cooperating parties look back on a successful edition with over 55,000 visitors. From Sunday 7 to Sunday 14 April, all kinds of activities for residents and care professionals took place throughout the city. From a sports lesson, an alzheimer's choir concert, an exhibition at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU), an open day at blood bank Sanquin to various care trade fairs at Koninklijke Jaarbeurs. During Cultural Sunday Beating Heart, Mayor Sharon Dijksma kicked off Dutch Health Week. Audrey Wilschut, Dutch Health Week project leader: "The city was buzzing, the interest in activities was enormous. Together with many Utrecht organisations, from small to large, we have laid a great foundation for future editions."
Dutch Health Week: a vibrant foundation for the future
Dutch Health Week is an annual event in the city and region of Utrecht for all residents and healthcare professionals. The week gives the city of Utrecht the opportunity to present itself as the region that wants to contribute most to a healthy, sustainable society. ''The expectations for Dutch Health Week were high and were more than fulfilled,'' said Utrecht Marketing director Cor Jansen. ''It was my great pleasure to immerse myself in the multifaceted programme that once again shows that in Utrecht there is not only talk of working together towards a healthier, more sustainable future, but that it is relentlessly put into practice here every day.''
Utrecht on 'healthy' journey: mental and health and fitness centred
Scattered throughout the city, in various districts, there was a free programme full of theatre, workshops, sports classes, art and film during Dutch Health Week. Jeroen van Hooff, CEO Royal Jaarbeurs: "Together with the municipality of Utrecht, Utrecht Marketing, FC Utrecht, TivoliVredenburg and Centraal Museum, among others, we aimed to spread the events and activities all over the city and enter into smart collaborations with partners from various sectors. In this way, we hoped to activate the entire city and we succeeded. Together, we created an inspiring multi-day festival and this offers a lot of perspective for a healthy future for the city."
Dutch Health Week belongs to everyone and is supported by Royal Jaarbeurs, Utrecht Marketing, ROM Utrecht Region, Economic Board Utrecht and Municipality of Utrecht.
