Utrecht, 1 May 2023 - Utrecht, starting location of the Vuelta in 2022 and previously of the Giro and the Tour, has been voted best cycling city in the world again this year. A perfect opportunity for Royal Jaarbeurs, in cooperation with partners Utrecht Marketing, Dutch Cycling Embassy, SportUtrecht and Utrecht Bike Community, to organise the very first Dutch Cycling Week. A week full of activities for cycling fans, cyclists, sports enthusiasts and anyone with an interest in cycling. Another first is the brand-new event Cycle Mobility that will take place in Jaarbeurs. There will also be an outdoor test event on the Nedereindse Berg, the consumer fair Bike Motion and a touring event. The themes of sustainability, mobility, health and sports stimulation will take centre stage throughout the week. The Dutch Cycling Week will take place from 14 to 22 October 2023.

New annual event

Ralf van Heugten, project manager Dutch Cycling Week: ''It feels good to bring together the cycling industry, cycling enthusiasts, local authorities and the business market. With this, we are building an annual event that captures the imagination of visitors and contributes to bicycle use in the Netherlands.'' The first edition of the Dutch Cycling Week consists of several components. Van Heugten continues: "We will organise an outdoor test event on Saturday 14 October at the Nedereindse Berg where people can extensively test bikes. In the weekend from 20 to 22 October, the first edition of 'Cycle Mobility' and the consumer fair 'Bike Motion' will take place in the Jaarbeurshallen. Cycle Mobility is the event for employees and decision-makers of organisations that use cycling as a means of transport for the benefit of employee mobility, sustainability and vitality. Bike Motion focuses on the sporty cyclist. To top it off, a tour ride will start from Jaarbeursterrein on Sunday 22 October.''

Utrecht as host

Cor Jansen, director of Utrecht Marketing, is enthusiastic about the role the Dutch Cycling Week plays in bringing the cycling Netherlands together: "The Dutch Cycling Week is a great initiative that fits perfectly with the world cycling city that Utrecht is. It is a great opportunity to showcase our beautiful city and inspire people to keep cycling. As the only city in the world, Utrecht welcomed the three grand tours. The Giro, the Tour and last year the Vuelta. Utrecht is a well-known name in cycling at home and abroad. The Dutch Cycling Week builds on this and shows that cycling is not only important for sport, but also for sustainability, mobility and health. We are proud that Utrecht is hosting this important event and look forward to a successful first edition in October."
