Utrecht, 3 February 2025 - A new annual event dedicated to smart, healthy and liveable cities will take place at Royal Dutch Jaarbeurs in June 2026: European Smart City Expo (ESCE). ESCE aims to bring together all themes that contribute to a sustainable living environment in cities. The event covers themes such as living, working and recreation, mobility, climate resilience, social and cultural attractiveness and healthy ageing. The reason for Jaarbeurs, as market leader with its own trade fairs BouwBeurs, VSK, DigiBouw and Future Facade, to introduce ESCE. Jaarbeurs is organising ESCE in collaboration with EarthValley and Urban Innovators Global. Jaarbeurs will announce this news on the opening day of BouwBeurs, the largest business construction event in the Netherlands. BouwBeurs can be visited from 3 to 7 February 2025 at Jaarbeurs in Utrecht.

International knowledge sharing and cooperation for a sustainable living environment essential
ESCE is the meeting place where experts share knowledge on the latest developments in smart, healthy and liveable cities. The target group consists of international policymakers, clients, developers, designers, builders and anyone interested in this topic. ESCE bridges the gap between knowledge and practice and takes into account the social context. Jeroen van Hooff, CEO of Royal Jaarbeurs: "With its knowledge and experience, the Netherlands is an important player in the development of smart, healthy and liveable cities. To make all European cities climate neutral by 2050, the need for international knowledge sharing and cooperation is great. I am proud that we are organising this brand new event together with the most innovative and progressive partners in this field."

Bas Boorsma, founder and partner of Urban Innovators Global: "The virtualisation of our cities is a profound transition in the way we design, manage and maintain essential functions to achieve liveable, climate-adaptive and circular cities. New Citiverse concepts will enable collaboration between different domains, with digital and green ambitions closely intertwined. This requires a bold forward-looking vision and innovation-oriented leadership. The Urban Innovators Global Leadership Forum connects participants to explore how cities can harness and scale up Citiverse innovations to make a meaningful transition for the betterment of our cities."

Arjan van den Born, managing director ROM Utrecht Region: "The Utrecht region has a strong network of companies, knowledge institutions and governments with expertise in sustainable building, mobility, energy and climate adaptation, connected through Earth Valley. By harnessing data and digitalisation, we are working together on innovative solutions and accelerating the transition to a smart, sustainable and healthy society. We support ESCE and join forces to realise concrete and scalable solutions for the city of the future."
