Benelux's largest Do It Yourself event 'KreaDoe' launches second Spring Festival
Utrecht, 4 April 2023 - Young creatives can indulge in numerous workshops and new hobbies from Friday 14 April to Sunday 16 April during the second edition of the KreaDoe Spring Festival. This year, the largest and most creative DIY festival in the Benelux is dedicated to mindful hobbying and sustainability. Marleen Rompen: "With this new edition, we would like to make young people aware of the fact that there are still many steps to take in the field of mindful hobbying. Being mindful with your hands and putting your thoughts aside contribute to stress reduction. Another trend we are focusing on this year is sustainable hobbying. We like to encourage this movement among young creatives."
KreaDoe Spring Festival for new generation of hobbyists
The average age at the KreaDoe Spring Festival is about 20 years lower than at the edition held annually in autumn. "During corona, many young people took up creative hobbies. Young people make their own jewellery or tinker with dried flowers. That is why last year we started a special KreaDoe festival specifically aimed at young people. Due to the enormous enthusiasm, this year we even set up an extra hall packed with creative activities," Marleen Rompen explains. For instance, there are two new creative influencers with their own theatre: Kitta DIY and Lillilettering.
Mindful hobbying: crochet, knotting or macramé
Many activities at the KreaDoe Spring Festival contribute to mindfulness. For example, visitors learn macramé during a workshop Mindful knotting. Also, influencer Lillilettering, known from the Golden Globes, will give a calligraphy workshop for the first time. Lillilettering: "Calligraphy has changed my life. I met a lot of sweet, special and fun people through social media thanks to my videos. In addition, I was discovered by very big names. For instance, thanks to my viral videos, I was even allowed to calligraphy for the Golden Globes, and I was featured calligraphically in a music video!"
Sustainable hobbying: still many steps to take KreaCycle square
The KreaDoe Spring Festival is all about sustainability. A special KreaCycle square has been set up where visitors can learn about sustainable products, reuse materials and get tips on upcycling. Marleen Rompen: "We have an exhibitor who gives workshops on how to make new paper from waste materials. We also have an exhibitor who makes nature mandalas from branches, flowers, leaves, berries, stones and shells." A great example is Studio Spintol who reuse wood considered "waste" by others. "For example, we saw old discarded tables into pieces useful to us. Scraps of wood from other artists and even from fine wood merchants are big enough for us to still be able to make something beautiful out of them. Rethinking is all you need to (continue to) make the best use of our planet's treasures!", says Bregje of Studio Spintol.
