Royal Jaarbeurs: the friendly, sustainable and innovative host for all of the Netherlands. A place where you meet, inspire, learn and grow. Our strongest point? Our people. Because together we are Jaarbeurs. Every day we dedicate ourselves to ensuring that a visit to our venue becomes special. But ... what is it really like when you yourself work in the World of Jaarbeurs? Are there also those enchanting parties, events and get-togethers for employees? Nina van der Knaap (member of staff association WEY) tells more about it.
The WEY is Jaarbeurs s staff association that you automatically become a member of. Nina van der Knaap, committee member at WEY says: 'We organise various get-togethers and activities throughout the year. As a member of WEY, you pay 2.50 euros a month, for which we organise various activities. For instance, there's the monthly pub night in our own 'bar', where you can buy drinks and get a nice meal for a small fee. There is currently a pubcontest where different departments within Jaarbeurs organise a drink with a theme. They get budget for this to dress up the pub and attract as many employees as possible.'
"The pub is a friendly place to meet"

According to Nina, the Pub is a fun way to get to know each other better: 'As Jaarbeurs employees, we are really involved. You often see people encouraging each other to go too or to join in for a while. You often go there with your own team, and then you are introduced to people from other departments. It's always a really sociable occasion with snacks and drinks.'

Besides the monthly pub, WEY organises more activities. Nina: 'We have something special every quarter. In the past, for instance, we once laser-gamed on an empty floor. There were smoke machines and we had tables you had to manoeuvre around or hide behind. Lately, we have been working a lot to tighten up the sports part. For instance, by participating in mudmasters together and doing other sporting activities.'

And then there are the various trips organised. Nina tells of a visit to Disneyland, a walking tour of Mallorca and a cycling adventure in Spain, among others. 'That's something different every year. But there are also recurring trips, such as an Octoberfest where we all go by bus in Germany or a visit to a special museum.' Besides the WEY, there are also colleagues who organise various trips, Nina explains. 'They do this on their own initiative, because they enjoy going out with colleagues. For example, they organise the popular Jaarbeurs ski trip. They also organise the annual football weekend. This is a European football competition for exhibition complexes. You can sign up for this to participate, or by joining as a supporter. In the evening is a nice dinner with party.'
"We achieve successes together here and also celebrate them together"

'Besides the activities and trips, there are also parties,' says Nina. 'The summer party is a really fun one, for example. In summer, our 'year' ends, and in September the exhibition season starts again. We then celebrate the end of the year with all employees with a big summer party, outside on our own grounds with snacks, drinks and entertainment. There is also a Saint Nicholas party for staff and their children. There really is a lot going on all year round for employees. My friend sometimes jokes, "Are you having another party with your work?" I like that. We achieve successes together here and also celebrate them together.'
