From 'occasionally' renting a meeting room at Royal Jaarbeurs to having a permanent room to hold postgraduate courses 25 days a year. For a year now, Polymer Technology Group Eindhoven (PTG/e BV) has found 'a new strategic place' at the Jaarbeurs MeetUp meeting centre in the Beatrix Building in Utrecht. Time for an evaluation. Why does this research and knowledge partner specifically choose Jaarbeurs and what makes it a suitable location for their courses?

PTG/e is a 100% subsidiary of Eindhoven University of Technology and specialises in applied research and/or analysis on all kinds of polymers, plastics and hybrid materials. It also organises postgraduate courses on polymers, coatings and plastics. Since a year, these course days and exams take place in Jaarbeurs. Laurent Nelissen, CEO of PTG/e, explains why they chose Jaarbeurs.

'From a business point of view, we were looking for a new relationship' he says. 'There are several reasons we chose Jaarbeurs. One: accessibility. With our training courses, we involve the entire Benelux. Our trainees, as well as teachers and experts, come from everywhere: Groningen, Maastricht, Delft, Amsterdam, but also other countries such as Germany, Spain and France. So we looked for a central, strategic location that is easy to reach from anywhere. Take France as an example. You catch the express train from Lyon to Brussels and from Brussels to Utrecht. You get off and next door is ... Jaarbeurs!'

As a second point, Laurent mentions the pleasant space: 'We invariably choose room 323, which is a professional lecture hall with a good set-up. It is also very nice that all rooms at Jaarbeurs MeetUp have full daylight. We used to come across rooms at other locations where you felt like you were in a cave. Then you were glad when you could go outside again to see some daylight. We wanted to get rid of that. The rooms at Jaarbeurs are very comfortable for our participants if you have lessons for a few hours at a time.'

'Finally, we think the accompanying infrastructure of Jaarbeurs, in the broadest sense of the word, is very important. It should also be somewhat attractive of course. You can sit in a hut on the heath, but that's not convenient. On the Jaarbeursplein, there's all sorts of things. It is only a 75-metre walk from the hotel to the course location. That is ideal teachers and participants.'

It is now more than a year since PTG/e chose Jaarbeurs as the permanent base for its course days. A cooperation that Laurent says is still fully satisfactory: 'Jaarbeurs thinks along with you. For example, Lisanne, our contact person reminds us of the wishes we had last time, and asks if we want it again. That's nice. Another example: our course material is delivered by courier a few days earlier. I have now experienced twice that Jaarbeurs itself already put the boxes ready in the hall. It shows that they really think and participate here.

Not only PTG/e talks about a successful cooperation, the course participants are also (more than) satisfied. This is evident from the evaluation forms they submit after their course. Course participants can rate the course and location with 'excellent', 'good', 'adequate', inadequate' or 'unsatisfactory'. Recently, 100% of the students rated the facilities and accessibility of Jaarbeurs as 'excellent' or 'good'. As did the lunch, which was rated 'excellent' and 'good' by more than 60%. Laurent says: 'It is a varied lunch; course members get something different every time. And special requests are well catered for. We had a student with celiac disease who was gluten intolerant. His lunch was neatly packed and everything went well. Our compliments! Long story short: we and our trainees are happy that we chose to switch completely to Jaarbeurs as the location for our training courses.'
