How do you ensure that sustainability has a place in all aspects of your fair or event? And how do you make a truly sustainable impact in your sector? These questions were asked by the concept developers of the Bouwbeurs when preparing the upcoming edition. To answer them, we challenged six young talents from Utrecht University to think along with us.

Sprint Day

They did so during the SDG Challenge, an initiative in which 13 companies are paired 13 Dutch universities. The SDG Challenge is based on the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, which were drawn up to combat climate change. During the SDG Challenge, students help companies by collaborating on issues of sustainability.

After a kick-off, the SDG Challenge Sprint Day took place on location at Jaarbeurs. For a day, students worked in sprints on the issue and presented the result in a pitch. The students came up with inspiring ideas, such as applying gamification to entice visitors to make sustainable choices and calculating the carbon foodprint of companies to see their carbon impact.

SDG Challenge

The SDG Challenge is organised twice a year and is an intiative of Soapbox. After an online kick-off, the Sprint Day took place at Jaarbeurs. In a final, students compete against each other with the best solutions to sustainable issues.
