Utrecht, 1 December 2021 - The Vakantiebeurs, which was to take place from 12 to 16 January 2022 at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, has been cancelled. The Vakantiebeurs is an internationally oriented fair with exhibitors from all over the world. For many of them, it is currently too uncertain whether and how they will be able to attend. Even though measures can be taken to make the event safe, the Jaarbeurs has therefore had to decide not to go ahead with the fair. The Travel Congress, the event for the travel industry itself, traditionally organised on the eve of the Vakantiebeurs, will go ahead, albeit in an online version.
Albert Arp, CEO of Royal Jaarbeurs: "The Vakantiebeurs is a public event with a special, informal atmosphere and lots of joint activities. It really should be a carefree event. And with the rising infections, it doesn't look like it can be that. That, combined with the difficult position of our international exhibitors, means we have had to make this decision."
Thecla Amoureus of the Vakantiebeurs: "The travel industry is having a tough time. With the deteriorating situation around corona worldwide, the number of bookings is dropping again and there are fewer travel movements. Especially at this time, we wanted to create a great event together with the travel industry. There was a lot of enthusiasm from exhibitors to participate. To inspire and encourage visitors to go on beautiful trips again. But we understand the uncertainty for many international guests. We will now focus our energy on a beautiful edition in January 2023."
Travel Congress does go ahead
On 11 January, Travel Congress will take place online. Amoureus: "We notice that there is a great need within the industry to share knowledge and inspiration with each other. The congress' theme, Rebuild, is more topical than ever and will help the industry respond to developments."
More information about the Travel Congress can be found at travelcongress.co.uk.
The decision not to go ahead with De Vakantiebeurs has no impact on other flow-through events planned by other organisers at the Jaarbeurs. The possibilities for each event will be looked at individually. The majority of conferences and meetings can also go ahead - with some adjustments - in larger rooms where necessary. More information about the last events and the safety measures taken by the Jaarbeurs to prevent the spread of the virus can be found at jaarbeurs.nl/veilig.
The next edition of the Vakantiebeurs will take place from 11 January to 15 January 2023.
