Zero-emission zone and environmental zone

Zero-emission zone and environmental zone at Jaarbeurs

Since 1 January 2025, Utrecht has had a zero-emission zone. A zero-emission zone is an area where only zero-emission company cars and trucks are allowed to drive, with the aim of reducing CO2 emissions. The environmental zone was also tightened on 1 January 2025 for diesel passenger cars. Jaarbeurs is located within the zero-emission zone and environmental zone. This means that you are not allowed to park or load and unload on our (parking) area if your vehicle does not meet the admission requirements.

Environmental zones:
Currently, 14 municipalities have environmental zones for the most polluting diesel vehicles. An environmental zone is an area in the city where certain means of transport are not allowed to drive because they emit too many substances that are harmful to the environment. This depends on a vehicle's emission class. In general, older cars are more polluting than new ones.

Zero-emission zones:
If there is a zero-emission zone, only vehicles that do not emit pollutants, i.e. battery- or hydrogen-electric-powered vehicles, will eventually be allowed to drive there. Often there are still transitional rules for certain types of vehicles. Want to know what the current rules are? Then take a look here. Want to know until when your van or truck can continue driving in zero-emission zones? Then do the registration number check.
