Jaarverslag Koninklijke Jaarbeurs 2023: Meer mensen, meer waardering, meer winst

Utrecht, 15 april 2024 - Koninklijke Jaarbeurs publiceert vandaag haar geïntegreerde jaarverslag over 2023. Dit verslag beschrijft haar activiteiten, strategie, financiële- en niet-financiële resultaten en belangrijke thema’s van het afgelopen jaar. De behaalde resultaten op het gebied van duurzaamheid vormen een wezenlijk onderdeel. Na een periode van drie moeizame corona jaren is er weer behoefte om elkaar te zien en te ontmoeten en is Jaarbeurs weer volop in bedrijf.

Highlights

•    In 2023 is Jaarbeurs bezocht door 2,3 miljoen bezoekers.
•    Het publiek heeft Jaarbeurs voor de tweede keer op rij gekozen tot beste congreslocatie van het jaar. 
•    Na een aantal verliesgevende jaren is een positief rendement behaald van 9,9 miljoen euro.
 

Een jaar van inspiratie en herijking

Jeroen van Hooff, CEO Koninklijke Jaarbeurs: “2023 was een jaar van inspiratie en herijking. Onze inspanningen om Jaarbeurs na corona te herstellen en te vernieuwen hebben hun vruchten afgeworpen. Naast de voortgang op onze strategie en de behaalde resultaten laten we in dit vernieuwde verslag zien hoe we waarde hebben gecreëerd voor onze klanten, medewerkers en de maatschappij. In het verslag zijn verhalen van onze stakeholders te lezen.”

Pascal van Gool, CFO Koninklijke Jaarbeurs: ”Na een paar verliesgevende jaren als gevolg van de coronapandemie, hebben we in 2023 een positief rendement behaald van 9,9 miljoen euro. In 2022 was er nog sprake van een verlies van 7,4 miljoen euro.”

Nationaal en internationaal

In Nederland organiseerde Jaarbeurs in 2023 18 verschillende beurzen gericht op haar strategische markten health & life sciences, bouw & installatie, agrifood, logistiek en travel & leisure. Met internationale evenementen zoals de AgriFood vakbeurs VIV, ILDEX en HORTI AGRI NEXT opereerde Koninklijke Jaarbeurs onder andere in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesië en de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten. Naast eigen vak- en consumentenbeurzen, vonden in 2023 38 grote beurzen en evenementen van opdrachtgevers in Jaarbeurs plaats.

Live en online

Jaarbeurs wil 365 dagen per jaar relevant zijn in haar strategische markten en lanceerde in 2023, naast de Dutch Health Hub en Computable.nl, het online platform de Bouw & Installatie Hub. 

Voortgang op duurzaamheid 

Opnieuw zijn grote stappen gezet op het gebied van duurzaamheid. Marloes van den Berg, Chief People & Sustainability Officer Koninklijke Jaarbeurs: “Zowel bij evenementen die we zelf organiseren als de evenementen die we faciliteren jagen we duurzaamheid actief aan. We spelen in op trends in de markten waarin we actief zijn. Ook binnen onze eigen organisatie staat duurzaamheid centraal.”

Utrecht fully committed to attracting leading international congresses

Putting Utrecht on the map as the city and region to organise leading international conferences and trade shows. This is the goal of the Utrecht Congress Alliance of public and private partners. It will focus on attracting events which fit the positioning of the city as ‘Utrecht, Heart of Health’, and are in line with the regional themes of Life Sciences & Health, New Digital Society and Smart Sustainability. This will be the foundation of a targeted acquisition strategy over the coming years.

Royal Jaarbeurs introduces Sustainability Pledge

Utrecht, 9 February 2024 - Royal Jaarbeurs is taking an ambitious step towards becoming Europe's most sustainable event organiser and facilitator by 2030. An ambition that can only be realised if forces are combined. This is why Jaarbeurs is introducing the Sustainability Pledge. By signing this Pledge, Jaarbeurs and its exhibitors promise to take their responsibility and make every effort to organise trade fairs as sustainably as possible. Today, the first exhibitors signed the Pledge during the biennial trade fair VSK 2024. Jaarbeurs is launching trade fairs in the construction and installation sector with the ambition of a circular BouwBeurs in 2027 and a circular VSK in 2028.

Royal Dutch Jaarbeurs wins gold award for Best Congress Venue for second time in a row

Utrecht, 5 February 2024 - Royal Jaarbeurs today won the national gold award for 'Best Congress Venue of the Year 2023' for the second time in a row. Initiator of the award is the trade magazine for business event venues MEETINGS. Herman Mantel, CCO Jaarbeurs: "I am extremely proud and honoured to receive the award for Best Congress Venue again. This award inspires us to keep striving for innovation, top quality service and sustainability. Thank you to everyone who contributes every day to the success of our conference venue."

Royal Jaarbeurs sells its share in VNU Exhibitions Asia Ltd in China to Advent International

Utrecht, 1 February 2024 –Royal Jaarbeurs operates outside of Europe in countries as diverse as Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the UAE and Rwanda with renowned international events such as VIV, ILDEX and HORTI AGRI NEXT. The company has until now also been active in China via its shares in VNU Exhibitions Asia Ltd (VNU EA). Now, following a strategic reorientation, Jaarbeurs has sold its 70% share in VNU EA in China to Advent International, a major player in the global private equity sector, on 1 February. Royal Jaarbeurs will continue to develop, organise and facilitate national and international events from Utrecht and via VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific in Bangkok.

Royal Jaarbeurs welcomes Herman Mantel as new Chief Commercial Officer

UTRECHT, 23 October 2023 - Royal Jaarbeurs has announced the appointment of Herman Mantel as its new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), effective 1 December 2023. He will succeed Heiko M. Stutzinger who is to become the new Managing Director of Hamburg Messe und Congress GmbH. Mantel is currently active as the general director of energy platform Connecthing, having previously worked as Digital & Data consultant at Station10 and CCO at Telegraaf Media Group.

Returning deposit bottles and cans at Royal Jaarbeurs

Utrecht, 2 October 2023 – Popular locations such as garden centres, airports and schools are increasingly deciding to be a collection point for deposit bottles and cans. The list now includes Royal Jaarbeurs in Utrecht where reverse vending machines give people the choice of transferring the deposit money to their own account or donating to the Princess Máxima Centre for paediatric oncology via the Tikkie online payment app.
